Of course, one of the best ways to get to the heart of a culture is through its cuisine. The same holds true for people. A sip from the tea flavor your mom used to make for you every morning before leaving for school. Or a small bite from a cake that resembles the one mom used to bake for anniversaries… They all take us back to our childhood, to those times when everything seemed so easy. And we stay there, for a few moments, pretending there is no virus, no household chores, no work to be done whatsoever. How do we do that? First by speaking, then by making some of the most delicious Cuban recipes.

We picked a few, but we are kindly inviting you to share your own favorite Cuban food

  • Cuban sandwich

There are only good parts about it: it only takes 10 minutes to prepare it, it’s fresh, crusty and de-li-cious. You’ll need: 4 slices of ham, 4 slices roast pork, 3 slices of Swiss cheese, 3 or 4 pickle slices, yellow mustard and 1/3 cut Cuban bread hard crust. And, of course, a great appetite.

  • Cuban spiced pork chops

If you love the flavors of a classic Cuban pork roast, then this is the perfect meal. You just marinate the pork chops in a sauce made up of lime juice, ground cumin, garlic cloves, onion powder, fresh pepper and olive oil. Then grill or broil the chops for 8-10 minutes and your exquisite Cuban meal is ready.

  • Moros y cristianos

Or black beans and rice. Cuban tradition says that the black beans represent the Moors and the white rice represents the Christians. Equally important is the soul-satisfying taste of this Cuban side dish. You need black beans, white rice, sofrito casero, cumin, oregano, apple cider vinegar, garlic, beer, tomato sauce and, of course, salt and pepper.

  • Vaca frita

Yes, the fried cow. We know you like this savory Cuban dish. What ingredients do you need? Beef flank steak, vegetable oil, tomato sauce, onion, garlic, ground cumin, fresh cilantro, olive oil, and white vinegar.

  • Cuban flan

What about dessert? Let’s try the traditional Cuban flan. Eggs, milk, water, sugar, vanilla, lemon peel and cinnamon stick. And here is your delicious, very sweet and rich dessert.
